After our recent visit to see Lake Eyre reach its highest level in over 50 years, it was time to leave the harshness of what Central Australia had to offer and head to our next destination.

The heat, at times, started messing with my head. The never-ending corrugations in the road were definitely testing both car and van and the infamous red ochre dust was also testing my patience.

But at the end of the day, I’d rather be on the road experiencing all of that along with whatever else the outback has to offer than spending time behind a desk in an office.

Our destination was the incredibly beautiful Flinders Rangers in South Australia. Talk about the two extremes. Settling in at our camp near the Parachilna Gorge allowed us time to sit back and reflect on just how fortunate we are. This was to be our backyard for as long as we wanted it to be. A glass of wine, a beer perhaps and why not throw in a campfire.

On an evening like this, it doesn’t get much better.
